Homeless Vigil

By Nick Lough

BILLINGS - Community members gathered in front of the Yellowstone County Courthouse Monday to remember the homeless.

Those attending say Monday's weather is one example of the difficulties homeless people face in the Billings community. Officials say the average age of a homeless person in the county is 9 years old. Nearly a million and a half children are homeless every night, an alarming statistic that many say needs to be addressed.

"We need to remember that the children are in the cold also and have no access to healthcare or food or shelter and that experience affects them the rest of their life," said Riverstone Health Clinic's Clarence Salley.

Officials also took time Monday to remember all the homeless people who have lost their lives.
