Meth Ads' Ineffective

By Stephanie Domurat

BILLINGS - An Australian Academic Journal states that the Montana Meth Project's graphic adds are not effective.

The article says after six months of viewing the ads more teens say using the drug is not a risky behavior. Montana Meth Project administrators say the review is only a "limited analysis".

Yellowstone County Law Officials say the ads are effective. "Over the last couple of years our Meth cases have dropped significantly, we can't say it's only from the Meth ads, but we do believe that they definitely have something to do with the drop in these cases," says Undersheriff Jay Bell.

He says other states have used the Montana Meth Project as a progressive example to combat the drug use.

I have not seen the Australian Journal, so have no clue how they arrived at their findings. What I DO know is that my adult children, and my grandchildren believe the the MT Meth ads deliver a powerful and strongly effective message and that they absolutely should be continued! When I hear that from family members age 10 through 45, that's good enough for me!

Listening to what an Austrailian says about a Montana project isn't normal. But on Meth it is.

A few years ago, for example many observers were concerned about the coming epidemic of meth, he belives the negative publicity about the drug's effects have helped cut rates by two-thirds. Need I say more

I totally agree this is Montana, NOT Australia. I work in county public health and I know for a fact these ads work.

I have seen the effects meth has had on individuals in the small Mt. community I live in. I can say that meth is not only a teen issue it also is an adult issue. I have witnessed parents hooked on meth and the family unit destroyed. Meth use is an ugly, ugly world and should not be sugar coated. I can not imagine that the adds haven't reached out and affected the minds of us all. Give meth the negative attention it deserves and maybe our youth won't even try it.

I don't think I care what an Australian Journal has to say about the Montana Meth Project. I'll believe my kids, and local police.
