BILLINGS - Since the Yellowstone County Health Department took on a new name, another Billings business has been fielding calls from folks who mistake their hotel for the medical facility.

The health department, now Riverstone Health, bares nearly the same name as Riverstone Billings Inn, located near Billings Clinic. Owner Ray Clark says it's confusing for their patrons and people trying to reach the health department. Clark says he tried to contact and dissuade the organization from making the names so similar, but says he didn't get a response. So now they've filed a law-suit.

"Some people may ask what's in a name and why all the fuss? The first reason is what I mentioned, confusion in the marketplace. And the second is that the lawyers call this intellectual property. We've invested quite a bit of money in establishing this brand and we've operated with this name for almost 6 years." says Clark.

All of the hotels owned by Clark, 2 in Billings, 1 in Great Falls and another in Spokane, all took on the name of Riverstone in 2003.

Why did Yellowstone County Health Department feel the need to pawn itself Were they embarassed to be identified as another County run facility because it inherently implies incompetance? When somebody is directed to Riverside Health, how and when do they find out it is just another County office? I'm sure it doesn't take long after taking a number and waiting for service.
