BILLINGS - A significant number of local shoppers say the struggling national economy will impact their holiday shopping.

Rimrock Mall surveyed more than 200 shoppers Friday morning. Forty-six percent say the economy will have an effect on their spending. Thirty-nine percent say it will have no impact and 15% say they're not sure.

Of those who say they'll spend less, nearly 60% say the major reason is uncertainty over the economy. But even in uncertain times, mall officials say there were some good signs amongst the shoppers who took the survey.

Rimrock Mall Manager Jeremy Vannatta says several people who took this year's survey were return shoppers from last year. Forty percent of those surveyed rate the Billings' economy as slightly stronger than the national economy.

Thirteen percent believe it's much stronger. Twenty-four-percent say it's the same, while 11% say it's slightly or much weaker than the national economy.
