Tester on Auto Bailout

BILLINGS - The Senate is expected to vote Thursday on a $25 million proposal to bailout the auto industry.

Montana Senator Jon Tester asked top executives from Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors several questions during a Senate Banking Committee hearing Wednesday. Tester says he wants automakers to be held accountable. He also said he would prefer a ground-up approach.

He says, "Wouldn't it be better just to throw money into jobs building infrastructure, whether that's research and technology infrastructure that would help the auto industry? Or whether that's highways and bridges and roads that would employ people, and they have money to go out and buy your vehicles?"

Senator Tester has not announced how he plans to vote on the issue.
