BILLINGS - About 8% of U.S. Citizens have diabetes and nearly a quarter of them don't know it.

The American Diabetic Association held a diabetes forum in Billings Saturday to give free diabetes screening and health advice. Officials say they're concerned about the recent increase of type two diabetes among children. Experts say the disease is serious and can be deadly.

"We did a recent survey where we found that people think it's their grandmothers disease, it's not their disease and it is becoming an epidemic so people do need to become aware of it," says Trina Adams with the American Diabetic Association.

Adams says it is possible to prevent the disease with healthy eating and daily activity.
