Walk Against Hunger

By Stephanie Domurat

BILLINGS - The United Nations estimates that more than 800 million people in the world go hungry every day. Most of those are in underdeveloped third world countries. Nearly 100 people in Billings participated in the Crop Hunger Walk Saturday morning, trying to help those who are hungry.

As part of a national campaign, the event raises money to stop hunger and poverty locally and around the world. Twenty-five percent of funds will stay in Billings, the rest will be sent over seas.

"I think it's a concern for their fellow man. Many people here in Billings and across the U.S. lead a pretty sheltered, good life. So this is a way to give back in some way to the people who do not have as much as you and me," says Jack Bell, Volunteer Organizer.

Crop Hunger Walks play a big role in Central America and rebuilding the U.S. Golf coast following Hurricane Katrina.

This event is a good thing but more should stay here in Billings as there are many people that go without.
