Smoke Free

BILLINGS - One year from now smokers will no longer be able to "light up" in bars across Montana.

Starting one year from now, Montanans will join several other states in banning cigarettes, cigars, and pipes inside bars and casinos. Some bars like the Brew Pub have already gone smoke free, even on their outdoor patio. Others like Hooligans Sports Bar in downtown Billings will start their ban sooner then the September deadline.

Hooligans workers say they already offer smoke free lunches and starting January 1, 2008, Hooligans will go completely smoke free. "Smokers are kind of seeing the writing on the wall that everybody's going to be smoke free. We’re going smoke free and I think people have been happy with it and the customers that don't smoke, they're really happy about the fact that we've gone non-smoking at the Brew Pub and were taking those steps to do that at Hooligans as well," said Montana Brewing Company and Hooligans Sports Bar General Manager Sean Graves.

Why is a ban needed?
