Two Rivers Detention Center

By Katie Ussin

BILLINGS - Montana corrections officials evaluated the Hardin Jail's potential to house offenders.

Thursday, the state evaluated a bid by the Two Rivers Detention Center. The winner gets a seven-year contract for the START Program designed to help probation violators stay out of prison. Hardin is competing against a Butte-based facility.

The results from Thursday's grading process will be sent to the executive director of the DOC, who will award the contract sometime in October. The contract for the START Program is for 88 beds, and the average length of stay for offenders is about 60 days.

Hardin is also working on putting in a bid to house low-level sex offenders for the state.
