LOCKWOOD - An oil truck overturned in Lockwood Sunday evening spilling thousands of gallons of oil and stopping traffic.

It happened right outside the Town Pump. Officials said the truck was carrying road oil used to re-pave streets. More than 6,000 gallons of that oil spilled into a drainage that leads to the Yellowstone River, but officials contained the spill before it reached the river.

Hazardous Materials teams cleaned up much of the area. Officials are not sure what caused load to dump. Traffic will be diverted though the night and for part of Monday as crews continue to clean up the spill.

The driver of the truck was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
