Bibles and a Trip to China

By KULR-8 Staff

BILLINGS - During the Beijing Olympics, a small group from Wyoming visited China with a different mission.

Four members of Vision Beyond Borders, a Wyoming-based Christian group, tried to bring Bibles into the country. Patrick Klein, who recently returned from the trip to Asia, described the resistance the group met in trying to get more than 300 Bibles through customs.

Klein says the group hoped to deliver the books to Chinese Christians, but they were told they were not allowed to bring them into the country. He says the group spent 26 hours at the airport trying to get customs officers to release their cargo.

"I just felt like it was time to take a stand. I knew they would give the Bibles back on the way out, but I just felt like, you're coming to America and the rest of the world and saying that you have freedom of religion, and that China is open."

Klein says his group spent several days taking in the sites, but noticed that they were under surveillance. He also says that when his group returned to their hotel, they determined that their rooms had been searched.

The Bibles were returned when Klein and his team arrived at the airport to leave the country. He says he was disappointed that the group was unable to distribute the books, saying that it's extremely difficult for Chinese Christians to get Bibles.

According to my experience, it is very easy to buy a Bible from church bookstore. There is no limit on how many you can buy.
