Grizzly Attack

By Sarah Gravlee

BILLINGS - Fifty days after being attacked by a grizzly bear in Montana, an Oregon man said he's doing well. A grizzly came into Steve Bartley's tent near Cook City in mid July.

He had injuries on his hands and forearms, but the bear left him alive. Bartley said he is now out of his casts and able to resume light work. The grizzly officials believe attacked Bartley is now at Washington State University's Research Center. Bartley said he may go visit the bear this winter, but is afraid a visit might bring back nightmares.

All things considered, Bartley said he knows he is lucky to have survived the encounter.
