MSUB Concerned

By Stephanie Domurat

BILLINGS - For sixty years now, Montana homeowners have supported higher education. But this year, officials at MSUB are concerned that may change.

MSUB Chancellor Ronald Sexton says he's concerned for this year's election, and the outcome of the six-mill levy. It's a property tax that supports Montana's Universities, and accounts for nearly 10% of the MSUB budget. Sexton says that funding is crucial.

"I think it's important if we realize the necessity of good public education. And that people should know that it is in the best interest of the community. It's for the public good, that we do that," says Sexton.

He says Montana's changing demographics and education priorities may cause the levy to fail. And if so, the university will significantly increase tuition for students.
