McCain Speech Reactions

By Stephanie Domurat

BILLINGS - The presidential party conventions have come to a close, which means for many the work is just beginning.

John McCain's speech was intended to unite republicans Thursday night as he accepted the Republican presidential nomination. Yellowstone County Republicans say his speech and vice presidential choice of Sarah Palin, have brought enthusiasm to the party here in Montana.

Party leaders say they are already seeing an increase in local funding for McCain's Campaign. "I think the convention went really well, and it really brought a lot of support from here in Montana. Especially with the sportsman who know that John McCain will protect our second amendment right," says Randy Vogel with Yellowstone County Republicans.

"I think his speech was the same thing we've already heard. I'm a democrat and I've heard it 4 or 5 times already, so I wonder how Republicans feel. But I think it's interesting he calls himself a maverick, when clearly votes with Bush 90% of the time," says Ray Tracy with Yellowstone County Democrats.

The presidential candidates will meet for their first debate on September 26th.

McCain is a one-trick pony: all he can do is brag about being a victim 40 years ago. He's Bush-lite, with no new answers. And he couldn't give a good speech if his career depended on it (which was obvious during yesterday's pathetc attempt). Palin is an inexperienced, right-wing zealot who shouldn't be allowed within ten miles of the White House. Thank God no sane person is going to vote for the Republicans this year...

McCain is an honest, patriotic, true American hero who is believable. Palin is a great choice for VP a quick learner, smart, has administrative experience, family values, and will one day make a great President. She's far more dynamic than I expected. I trust these people with my beloved country.
