Healthy Montana Kids Initiative

BILLINGS - State Auditor John Morrison was in town Thursday night to throw the first pitch at the Mustangs game with the help of a few of Montana's 35,000 kids without health coverage.

Morrison was promoting the Healthy Montana Kids Initiative. He says if passed this November it would raise the income ceiling so more children are covered through CHIP and Medicaid. Morrison says it would mean most of those uninsured kids would get coverage. The initiative would also make sure kids get signed up for the programs they're eligible for.

"Eligible kids aren't getting signed up and this has some provisions in it that work directly with hospitals and schools to sign kids up directly on site. And we think that will lead to about 30 thousand Montana kids getting signed up." says Morrison.

Morrison says the initiative would bring in around $75 million in federal money to help pay for the program. Voters will see the Healthy Montana Kids Intiative on the ballot this November.
