Obama's Military Experience

BILLINGS - During the convention in St. Paul, Republicans have highlighted Senator John McCain's extensive military career.

Retired U.S. General Paul Eaton, a Barack Obama supporter, who has extensive experience in, and knowledge of Iraq, said he does not believe the Democrat's lack of military experience will be an Achilles heel.

"Probably the most sophisticated and capable war guy we've had is a man named Franklin D. Roosevelt; a man afflicted with Polio at the time of the most heated warfare," said Ret. Gen. Eaton during a phone interview. "He preformed brilliantly because he surrounded himself with absolutely superb war fighters. I expect Barack Obama to fully understand and support that type of warfare."

Retired General Eaton said Obama is more prepared to fix the ailing VA system and take care of the hundreds of thousands of returning veterans. He said the fact that McCain voted against the 21st Century G.I. Bill is also an issue for him.
