Brucellosis Free Status

By KULR Staff

MONTANA - Montana has officially lost its brucellosis free status after the disease was found in two different herds in the past two years.

That means testing is now required for female breeding cattle because brucellosis can cause cows to abort their young. Testing is expected to cost ranchers from six to twelve million dollars.

To regain brucellosis free status, the state must have more cattle vaccinated and keep them from coming into contact with other livestock.
