McCain Missing in Montana

By Stephanie Domurat

BILLINGS - Obama has now visited the Treasure State 5 times, but Montanans are still waiting for his Republican opponent to show up.

Obama has also overwhelmingly outspent John McCain in Montana. The McCain campaign says it believes the candidate's time and money are better spent elsewhere at this point.

G.O.P. Leaders say they're focusing instead on a grass-root movement. They believe that strategy is working as McCain has steadily gained in the polls by focusing on states with more undecided voters. States like Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania. "First of all, McCain is a westerner and he knows what is important to Montanans and about western issues. On the other hand, Obama needs to come to Montana and to the west to learn about issues that we care about. I think that most of Montana will be comfortable with the fact that McCain knows those issues," says Erik Iverson with the Montana Republican Party.

Iverson says the McCain campaign will continue to monitor polls in Montana. And if they feel it necessary, McCain could make a stop in Big Sky Country.

I agree. I think it's a major fallacy to regard the entire West as one giant patchwork of the same ideas. How should I know what's important to Arizonans? Come to Montana, Mr. McCain. Show me that you know what issues are relevant to my state. Make that effort, make that interest. Ask the girl to the big dance to see if she'll like you.

I am not a republican nor a democrat, however, I find it vary respectable that Obama has taken his time to come to Montana. Do our votes really count? I would say Obama thinks so, and I am guessing McCain just expects to win the vote here. Right now Obama has my vote, but its not election day yet.
