Trooper Killed

By Nichole Szemerei & The Associated Press

A Montana Highway Patrol trooper from Kalispell has died after a head on collision on U.S. Highway 2 near Columbia Falls.

Officials say 29-year-old Trooper Evan Schneider was killed in the accident at 7:40 Tuesday night on U.S. Highway-2 toward Glacier Park from Columbia Falls. Officials say Schneider was traveling eastbound with his emergency flashing lights on and was trying to pull over another vehicle when an oncoming pickup truck crossed the center line and struck his car head-on.

Flathead County authorities say a man in that truck, 42-year-old Roy A. Moore, was ejected from the truck and died at the scene. A woman who was in the truck was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Trooper Schneider is survived by his wife, Carrie, and his brother, James, also a Highway Patrol Trooper.
