Financial Help

By Stephanie Domurat

BILLINGS - With the current struggling economy, many are looking for new ways to save money. And that includes students at Montana State University Billings.

Officials at the University report giving out $1.2 million dollars in scholarships this year, that's more than double what they gave out four years ago. During recruiting this year, they say they saw a dramatic increase in high school graduates wanting to work instead of going to school.

MSU-B Chancellor Ronald Sexton says students can try and find money in multiple ways. "And then instead of looking for one scholarship that will solve all of their problems, look at scholarships that will pay part, or start work study, and then maybe some other options that may exist. And then if they can get a Pell grant, that’s doable." says Chancellor Sexton.

The Chancellor says the university is now able to predict who is most vulnerable to drop out of school because of financial reasons, and is beginning a program to help keep those students enrolled.
