BLM Makes Plans for Montana

BILLINGS - The Bureau of Land Management is working on a new resource management plan, a task they only take on every 20 years.

They've been seeking the public's input, since they're the ones who work and play on the land. Currently the area is managed according to a 1984 plan, with some amendments.

The planning area is more than 400,000 acres. It includes Big Horn, Golden Valley, Musselshell, Stillwater, Sweet Grass, Wheatland and Yellowstone counties, as well as some of Big Horn County, Wyoming.

"I think this is a great opportunity for the public to get engaged. These are public lands. I have a say in what happens here, I can go recreate. If I owned a business there may be some potential for me and this is a great time to get involved on this level." says Kim Prill with the BLM.

Prill says they determine things like where and when certain areas are open for recreation. This was the last open house held for public input, but Prill says they will accept comments throughout planning. That should be complete in about three years.
