New Boy Scout Uniforms

By Naomi Pescovitz

BILLINGS - After nearly 30 years, the Boy Scouts of America have a new look.

A new uniform features an updated style made of cooler fabric and pants that can zip off into shorts. There have been some revisions in the past, but this is the first major redesign since the early 1980's. Scouts and their parents gave input for the design, and a local scout official says it has helped the troops redefine their own image.

"We have let other people define who we are for a long time," Don Bean, District Director for the Boy Scouts Montana Council, said. "We are taking it back and saying this is who scouting is and this is what we stand for and these are the values we stand for."

The new design is called the "centennial uniform" in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America in 2010.
