Bus Tour for Cancer

By Stephanie Domurat

CROW AGENCY - It's the largest grassroots mobilization campaign ever waged against cancer, and it made its 34th stop Thursday in Montana. The six month tour began in Ohio and ends on election day in Washington, D.C.

The cross-country trip encourages politicians to make cancer a national priority, while providing awareness and education along the way. Crow women with Messengers of Health partnered with the trip organizers Thursday as an opportunity to teach women on the reservation the importance of being tested early and how to get the help they need.

"Among my people, there has been a breakthrough as far as awareness, and especially here, we can talk about it now and I believe it's very timely that this bus is stopping here, now. It really shows that we can all just fight cancer together," says Alma McCormick with Messengers for Health.

The bus trip also allows cancer survivors to tell their own stories of survival and inspire others across the United States.
