Walk for Liberty

By Nichole Szemerei

BILLINGS - A couple made a stop in Billings during their walk across the country to promote the "Free State Project".

This is a movement to recruit 20,000 activists to move to New Hampshire where they would attempt to create a society with a diminished role of government. This would include tax reductions, expansion of individual rights, and constitutional federalism.

Brooke Buchanan who is walking with her husband says this move from the west to the east coast has allowed her to evaluate her individual political views. "I mean we love our America but the thing is we want to keep it a country that we're proud of and that we can live in and that's safe for everybody. And you know one of the reasons I'm doing this walk is I realized I felt a lot of fear concerning the government and I don't want to feel that way," Buchanan says.

So far over 8,000 people have joined this movement, 44 of those from Montana and 20 of them from Wyoming. But of the supporters, only 291 people have made the move to New Hampshire.

Quite correct, Jeremy! And that's also only the 291 people who have reported they moved. Liberty-oriented people tend also to be privacy conscious, and there are definitely people who have moved who haven't reported it. I've heard some estimates that there are close to 500 who have actually moved.

One clarification is needed. With the Free State Project people are only saying they will move after 20,000 others commit to move too. So it's not that ONLY 291 people have moved. It's that 291 people have decided to move early and get the ball rolling on increasing liberty within the state of New Hampshire. Thanks.
