MontanaFair Brings Business

By Stephanie Domurat

BILLINGS - MontanaFair begins Friday, potentially bringing big crowds to Billings to enjoy festivities.

Even with a struggling economy this year, organizers expect a big turnout. They report a dramatic increase in pre-sales from last year. About one-third of the 250,000 people expected will be from out of town.

That could spell a big boost for retail, lodging and restaurant industries. Fair officials say there are many activities to keep families entertained with just general admission. "We actually expect to have more sales, our ticket sales are up for this year, so we know that people are making that choice to come. We're calling it your stay-cation, use less fuel, have more fun at the fair." says Sandra Hawke with Metra Park.

The record number of attendance for the fair was in 1995, with over a quarter million tickets sold. Last year about 248,000 people attended.
