BILLINGS - During the month of July, KULR-8 held a contest asking viewers what the Spirit of Montana meant to them. We’ve picked a winner from both the photography and video categories.

"Montana's Beauty" is captured in a picture. The photograph taken by steve-82 shows the west side of the Crazy Mountains and is the winner to the Spirit of Montana contest.

Also taking home first place is Shane Fairbanks who submitted the video entitled, "Life Under the Big Sky: The Spirit of MT."

"It was just really cool to see all of the pictures I've taken and that my wife has taken as well just around town and how beautiful it is. It just really gives you a deeper appreciation for living here," Fairbanks said.

Fairbanks favorite photo in the video and the one he says won it for him is of his daughter. "Definitely the one of Ella; she's riding in the backpack with my wife. We took a number of pictures of her like that and they're all really good but that was definitely my favorite."

The photo winner gets $500 dollars and the video winner gets $700 dollars. To view the other submissions, click on YouNewsTV in the top right hand corner of our webpage.

Not only is the state beautiful in all its surroundings, but it is beautiful in its people. I moved here from Minnesota which also has all the beauty mentioned above, but it is what brought me to Montana 10 years ago after a vacation here 25 years ago. Way to go Montana, hold your beauty, hold your personality. It is the best within the United States.
