Advocacy Groups Gets New Office

By Alden Downing

HELENA - Disability Rights Montana, an advocacy group for the disabled, celebrated their new office in Helena, dedicating the building the people and cause they serve.

The non-profit group supports Montana's disabled community by providing a fully accessible meeting area, legal representation, individual advocacy and education. In short, making every day life inclusive for the disabled.

"This is a voting year and so we're spending a lot of time making sure that polling places are accessible so that every Montanan can cast a vote privately and independently," explained Executive Director Bernadette Franks-Ongoy. "I get to go to the polls and I can do that in private. A lot of times people with disabilities don't have the opportunity to do that in private."

Disability Rights Montana serves the over 30,000 Montanans dealing with physical and mental disabilities. Their mission includes working to advance the dignity, equality and self-determination of the disabled.
