Rehberg Fire Threatens Homes

By Madelyn Jarrett

BILLINGS - Fire fighters fight winds threatening to push flames from the Rehberg Ranch Fire into homes Friday afternoon.

Fire fighters aren't sure how big the fire is right now, but they say it is threatening homes. Officials say it's a flare up from a fire started by lightning this Tuesday.

Billings fire crews, the BLM, Shepherd and Lockwood fire are all on scene. Officials say they have 2 helicopters on the way. Nearly two hours ago flames burned through Yellowstone Valley Electric power lines, affecting around 800 customers in the Heights. Yellowstone Valley Electric Officials say Northwestern Energy has also been affected.

Fire officials say they're having a hard time keeping control of the fire line right now. Police are blocking the entrance to Rehberg Ranch on Rod and Gun Club Road, to keep people away who are trying to get a closer look.
