Yellowstone River Flows

BILLINGS - National Weather Service officials say the Yellowstone River is the highest it's been since 1997. Both sheriff's and weather officials say people should use extreme caution when on or near the river.

Meteorologist Keith Meier says, the river is running dangerously high and fast. He attributes the high water to late spring run-off and above average snow pack. He says generally, the snow melts in a series of stages, but this year it's all happening at once.

The Yellowstone is not expected to flood near Billings, but to the West the river has already overtaken some banks.
