Clinton's Advisor

By Katie Ussin

BILLINGS - Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton's top campaign advisor was in Billings Wednesday, a day after her candidate swept the Kentucky primary.

Ann Lewis discussed the Clinton Camp's strategy for the final push of the primary season. Lewis also spoke with voters about Senator Clinton's track record in the Senate, her advocacy for the people, her commitment to universal health care and ending the War in Iraq. but nothing about ending the battle for the White House.

In the Billings Clinton campaign office Wednesday morning, Marilyn Preston explains why Hillary is her candidate, "Because she brings a lot of experience." Trailing Senator Barack Obama in delegate count, Senior Clinton Campaign Advisor, Ann Lewis, said the focus now is winning over more superdelegates.

"Neither Senator Clinton or Senator Obama can cinch the nomination on pledged delegates alone," said Lewis. "Both of them will need the votes of superdelegates, those elected officials and party officials who get to vote as part of the process, and they are going to be using their judgment as to who will be the strongest candidate for Democrats in the fall." The Clinton Camp is also focusing on making sure the votes in Michigan and Florida count. The states were stripped of their delegates as punishment for moving up their primaries. Lewis said it is up to the Democratic National Committee to work out the issue so the party can unite in harmony behind one candidate.

"It is so important that every vote be counted because the surest way I know for Democrats to unite is for people in all 50 states to believe that their votes were were respected and taken into account," said Lewis. "I don't think anybody feels the process is working as well as it could, but we've go to keep our focus on the general election, and there's time to go back and look at rules next year."

On issues, Lewis said Senator Clinton stands by her commitment to not increase the capital gains tax above 20% and end the No Child Left Behind Act. She said it's very likely Hillary will be in Billings before the June 3rd primary.
