Water Restrictions

By Sarah Gravlee

COLUMBUS - Residents of Columbus are still under water restrictions as officials try to repair a water pump.

Public Works Director Dennis Holten said the pump started pumping sand rather than water two weeks ago. He said there is enough water for household use, but they're asking people not to water their lawns. Holten said he's concerned they might be running out of water.

"It's pretty catastrophic if you actually run out of water in your storage tank," he said. "It takes forever to get things back fired up again. You probably have to chlorinate all kinds of things. You think about all the bad things."

Holten said he hopes to have the pump up and running by the end of the week, and a third water pump on line by the end of the summer.
