Farm Bill Passes Senate

By Stephanie Domurat

BILLINGS - The farm bill is on its way to the president's desk. The senate overwhelmingly passed the $290-billion package Thursday. Senator Max Baucus says the 81-15 margin shows the broad support for the measure by both parties.

"I want a strong agriculture economy in this country, I want a strong home grown source of safe affordable food and fiber. I believe this farm bill will strengthen our farm economy." says Senator Baucus.

President Bush has promised to veto the bill saying it's too expensive. However, Baucus says there is enough support in the Senate and House to override the president's veto.
