BILLINGS - City Council members agreed to sell a portion of land to School District 2 Monday evening, but didn't approve the final agreement yet.

The 10 acres called Cottonwood Park is between 54th Street and Colton on the west end of Billings. It's slated to possibly become a school site in the future. The school district agreed to buy it for $200,000 dollars.

Superintendent Jack Copps says the money was budgeted into last year's spending. "It's money specifically reserved for that purpose, it's been earmarked for that. So we aren't able to use that money for instruction or for text books or for that sort of thing."

The city council wants to amend some language in the final buy-sell agreement before moving forward. The only concern is that the district could someday return the property with a vacant school building sitting on it that they no longer need or want.
