Bench Boulevard Project

By Nick Lough

BILLINGS - After years of planning it appears the Bench Project in the Heights could begin construction next year.

Yellowstone County Commissioner Jim Reno says he believes all plans are in place and the money is available. The project connects Bench Boulevard and 6th Avenue North near MetraPark.

Reno says the project is a great emergency route if needed and should help with traffic in the area. "It's going to take a third of the cars off main street, but probably equally important it's going to free up all the traffic jams at MetraPark," Said Reno.

Reno says the project could be done in two phases with phase one building the bridge over Alkali Creek and phase two creating a tunnel underneath Main Street.
