First Ever in Montana

By Madelyn Jarrett

BRIDGER - Bridger High School received some very high honors Thursday evening as they show-cased their award winning music program. Their Grammy Award Winning program.

Bridger High School is the first Montana school ever to receive the Grammy Signature Schools Enterprise Award. The music program consisting of about half of the entire student body applied for the award last fall. They submitted a recording of their work, and made history for their school and the state.

The award includes a $5,000 dollar grant. Michel Sticka, the Music Director at the school says, "I hope that this is something they can take with them, that they could achieve this in spite of the fact that we're a small school and in spite of the fact that we're a rural community."

David Sear with the Grammy Foundation was there to present the award, he says the award is to recognize schools like Bridger. "Not just to schools that have triple digit budgets, and half the students taking private lessons." Only 2 other schools were chosen nationally for this particular award.
