A Safer Facebook?

BILLINGS - A popular Internet social networking site is trying harder to keep its users safe, particularly young users.

Montana Attorney General Mike McGrath said Thursday, Facebook agrees to do more to protect children using the site. Under the agreement, Facebook will attempt to determine if users are actually affiliated with the networks, schools or communities they say they are.

Minors using the site are able to block all users over 18 from contacting them or viewing their profile. Adults 18 and older won't be able to do an age-based search for people under 18.

Facebook staff will also establish a 24 hour hotline to respond to law-enforcement inquiries. The agreement is similar to one reached in January with another popular social networking website, MySpace.
