BUTTE - More than 4,000 people converged in Butte Saturday for the annual Mansfield-Metcalf Dinner, a democratic party fundraiser which turned out to be a record breaking evening this year.

Montana Democratic Party Chairman Dennis McDonald says he believes the sky is getting a "little bluer in the Big Sky." His comments were in reference to what he hopes may be a shift in Montana's historically Republican record toward the Democratic party. He said the energy at the Mansfield-Metcalf dinner took him back to his days working on the 1968 campaign of Robert Kennedy.

McDonald reminisced that he felt the nation was at that point at a critical time in history as it is now. KULR-8 News also caught up with people who traveled from across the state and region to see senators and presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

One woman from Libby said she just wanted to hear from the "horse's mouth" what they planned for the future of the country. Another couple from Billings told KULR-8 they wanted to see who might be the next President of the United States in person.

Many people held signs in support of the candidates and some even brought guitars and sang folk songs while they waited to enter the Butte Civic Center.
