BILLINGS - Tuesday is the last day to get your hot donuts now from Krispy Kreme. Billings Krispy Kreme will close its doors for the last time Tuesday at 10 p.m.
Store manager, Mike Fortier, said the Billings branch of the chain has been open for nearly 4 years. Molly Spore the director of operations said the Billings store of the chain has not been profitable. She said it is the last Krispy Kreme in Montana and she is sad to see it go.
Many people in the community will be upset to see the donut store leave Billings, but the announcement affects the 20 employees the most. "When you lose your job it's tough times," said Tom Frisby, the Regional Director of Job Service.
According to those standards, many people in Billings have had tough times lately. Big Sky Airlines recently laid off more than 140 employees. Ben Franklin Crafts announced they will close they're doors in May, and Wells Fargo has laid off as many as 70 employees in the last year. "I would say we're looking at less than 150 maybe 175 jobs in our community that have gone away," Frisby said.
He added that there is good news. While some companies are laying people off others are building new buildings are hiring rapidly. "We've got quite a number of jobs," Frisby said. "Talk about 648 jobs right now Monday that are listed with us."
Jobs you can apply for by visiting the Job Service office on Rosebud Drive.
On Wednesday officials from the Department of Labor will attend a staff meeting here at the Krispy Kreme. They will let employees know about their options and possibly help them find jobs.
