Project Homeless Connect

By Scott Beadle

BILLINGS - About 40 organizations came together Friday to bring services to the homeless. Project Homeless Connect offered resources ranging from clothing and haircuts to job services to blood pressure checks.

The idea behind the project was to get all the services under one roof to make them as easy to access as possible for those how need them, as well as raising awareness about homelessness in Billings.

"It awakens Billings to the homeless population, and what's really happening out there," said Joe Chalupa, one of the project's chairmen. "We have a lot more work to do," Chalupa added.

Organizers estimate that they were able to offer some kind of help to about 300 people, but Chalupa estimated that there were as many or more homeless people in Billings who didn't show up for help. Still, he considered the project a success because of the number of people who received housing advice, personal hygiene supplies, or a hot meal.
