WOLF POINT - A 3,000-acre fire in northern McCone County has been contained. No homes were destroyed in the blaze but 5-to-10 outbuildings were lost; and some minor injuries were reported.

The 528 fire burned a path six miles long and five miles wide, about five miles south of Wolf Point. McCone County's assistant DES coordinator, Mistika Hisdahl, said the fire started about noon Monday, and high winds caused it to spread rapidly.

A few homes were evacuated and Secondary Highway 528, which gave the fire its name, was shut down for a time. Authorities Tuesday said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Several other wildfires were reported in central and eastern Montana.
