Wolf Population Rises

By Madelyn Jarrett & The Associated Press

MONTANA - We are seeing more wolves here in Montana. The state's Fish, Wildlife and Parks says in 2007 the wolf population rose 34%.

Most of the growth was in northwestern and far western Montana, where the population increased by about 92 wolves, to 213. The greater Yellowstone area saw a population increase of 14 wolves, to 209. Some of the growth can be attributed to new births but there are other reasons as well.

Wolf management with the FWP says hunters and landowners are getting better at reporting wolf sightings.
