Scouts Day at Park

BILLINGS - Saturday, hundreds of youngsters braved the cold and the snow to participate in some scouting fun. It was the Black Otter district's annual polar bear day. More than 300 boys ranging in age from six years to teenagers packed the Riverfront Park. The day's events started at 9 am. Scouts competed in ski races, an obstacle course and target games. Scouts also learned fishing and casting skills and how to use a compass. When the cold became too much, participants warmed themselves with hot cocoa and a fire. Assistant Cub Master Shawn Bowman said the boys get more than they realize out of scouting. "You know it's a great program. It teaches a lot of good skills, values and whatnot. To learn how to work well with each other and have a lot of fun, that's the ultimate goal of scouting, to have fun."
Scouts came from all over the greater Billings area to partake in the day's events.
