HELENA - The State Auditor's office has released a documentary that details two major cases of fraud that happened right here in Montana.
Fraud Under the Big Sky reviews the cases of Tom O'Neill and Piper Jaffray in Butte and Pat Davison in Billings.
The victims of these frauds share what they would have done differently to protect themselves.
"Maybe the most important thing that can be learned from these two stories is that it's very important for you to make sure that the investment that you're investing in is legitimate, that you have authorized it, that it's suitable for you and that you know what's going on in your account," explained State Auditor John Morrison.
Both of these cases were prosecuted by the State Auditor's office and the U.S. Attorney's office.
The documentary showcases the very real consequences of these crimes and their presence in our community.
Fraud Under the Big Sky will be showing Tuesday at the Myrna Loy Center in Helena. The show starts at 7 p.m. and is free of charge.
If you want a free copy of the film, contact the State Auditor's office at 444-3435 or send an e-mail to jenkirby@mt.gov.

One of the "victims" of this fraud was at the time non-chalantly conspiring to give away thousands of Montana jobs in the interest of (his) corporation's dealings. (which, they did...) No pity here.

I suggest the U.S. Attorney's office also look into other types of fraud in the Big Sky. I invested $111,000 in my retirement dream home only to find out after the fact that the builder/seller had withheld information that would have caused me to NOT purchase this home. This might not have been a securities fraud but it definitely is an investment fraud. Unfortunately no one in the State of Montana Goverment holds this person accountable. I would like to see this type of fraud addressed.
