Frequently Asked Questions
- How often does the belt on a vacuum need replaced?
- Every 3-4 months. After about three months, the belt has stretched, causing it to slip on the shaft of the motor. This means the brush roll turns slowly or not at all. The vacuum still picks up the easily seen surface litter but the sand and grit at the base of your carpet starts to build up, causing excessive carpet wear.
- Are there really vacuums that never loose suction?
- No. That claim is primarily marketing hype. What you’re really looking for is a vacuum that maintains its cleaning ability from start to finish.
- Which is better? A bagless vacuum or one that uses bags?
- Originally, all vacuum cleaners were bagless. Then manufacturers improved filtration by adding the disposable paper liner. Do you have trash cans at home? Do you put disposable liners in them? WHY? Isn’t bagless better? This same analogy applies to the bagless vaccum.
- What does HEPA stand for?
- This is a type of filter and it stands for High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor. The problem is that while there are many manufacturers who brag about their vacuums containing a HEPA filter, the standards in this country allow for claims based on very loose methods. Not all HEPA filters are created equally and a HEPA filter on a vacuum does not make a HEPA vacuum.
- Why should I shop at an independent vacuum store?
- Independent dealers offer product demonstrations, provide service after the sale and offer expert advice. Your local dealer can give you professional advice and information – the benefit of years of experience and product knowledge.
