BILLINGS - We're learning more details about a stabbing that sent three people to the hospital.

Early on the morning of June 18th, Billings Police officers were sent out to a disturbance on Golden Avenue in Billings. What they found was a gruesome scene.

Koncerts for Kidz organizer Ian Elliot lives in a quaint house in a quiet neighborhood on Billings' West End. There, he cares for his elderly mother who suffers from advanced Alzheimer's. In May, he let a young couple with nowhere else to turn move into his basement. Elliot says he thought he was becoming more of an adopted uncle than a landlord to the pair, until 4:00 a.m. one life-altering Saturday morning when Elliot heard screaming from the couple downstairs. First, he called 911, and then he stepped in to help.

He explains, "And I said, 'Dustin, you just need to, let's cool down here, this is getting out of hand, let's calm down and work this out.' And, just about that time, he hit me and I've never been in fistfights before, but he just clobbered me really hard. I kind of was backed into my mother's bedroom and Shauna pulled me in and shut the door and said, he's trying to kill us. I held the chair up and said, 'Dustin, stop! You've got to stop this!' And he just grabbed the chair and threw it out of the way and as he did, I turned to the left and here's my mother, sitting on the bed, this is in her bedroom, and uh, she's just spattered with blood. I just sat up and grabbed his knees, pulled them together, and pushed as hard as I could. I knew this was suddenly life or death."

That's when three Billings Police officers showed up, but the drama didn't end there. Elliot says, "Dustin just rolled over, took the knife and stabbed himself about 5 times real fast into the neck."

Elliot says the officers had to tase Dustin Kaufman twice before he would drop the knife. He says, "As they were pulling me around, I saw a pool of blood in the room and they said, 'Well, he stabbed you in the neck and we've gotta get that stopped.' And that's the first time I realized he had stabbed me. You know, it was scary, it was very scary."

Elliot was stabbed once in the neck and twice in the back. He says he plans to press charges and hopes Kaufman can get help with existing mental health issues. Elliot believes the decision to call 911 before he got involved most likely saved all four of their lives.
