BILLINGS - Unofficial results show the School District 2 bond election was a success Tuesday night.

Unofficial results show the elementary bond passing with about 63% to 37% of the vote, or 16,207 voting for it and 9,637 voting against it. The same holds true for the high school bond with 18,536 votes for the bond and 11,743 against it.

The two federal bonds total $12 million and will be used on maintenance projects like new roofs, windows, fire alarms, and heating systems in school buildings. In fifteen years, tax payers will have to pay back about $5.6 million.

Superintendent Keith Beeman said he was thankful for voters' support. "These construction projects will help us improve the teaching and learning environment and that's paramount for our students, and that's very appropriate and needed," he said.

About 30,427 ballots were counted; that is about a 45% voter turnout.
