BILLINGS - Nestled along the Yellowstone River, west of Park City lies a Gr-8 landscape crafted by Maurice Propp. "The farmer out here jokes with me that I spend more time in my little flower beds than he does farming two acres a year," said Propp.

A stroll along the pathways gives you the chance to see some of the 200 species of perennials he's planted. "I have loved to play in the dirt ever since I was a little kid," he said. "I think I must have got this from my mother and my grandmother," he said about his passion for gardening. "There weren't florists back in the '30's and '40's and I guess when there were funerals or weddings everybody from the surrounding area knew that my grandmother had big flower beds and she would give them flowers for their event."

He said amending the soil before you plant, and having an efficient sprinkler system in place are key to a successful garden. "The old adage labor of love really rings true with gardening because it's a tremendous amount of work," said Propp. "I can stay out here almost all the time. To me, this is the real world; the river, this environment." Giant cottonwood trees only add to his great landscape, and provide some much needed shade after a hard day's work in the garden.
