BILLINGS - The brother-in-law of the man killed in Monday morning's bear attack near Yellowstone National Park said the family is trying to cope with his sudden and tragic death.

Kevin Kammer, 48, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, was an avid outdoorsman. His brother-in-law said he loved to flyfish and kayak and that is what he was doing during his trip to Montana. The bear killed him Wednesday morning in his tent at Soda Butte campground.

The family is trying to stay positive. "He could've just as easily been hurt in Grand Rapids riding down the road, there could've been a car accident or something," said Jim Howard, brother-in-law. "I think it's important for people to live their lives and to do what they want to do and what they dream about doing. I mean, yeah, in retrospect I wish he hadn't gone, but I was glad he was pursuing his dream and pursuing what he loved to do."

Howard said his brother-in-law was a stay-at-home dad who adored his kids and wife. He said the family had asked for their privacy during this tough time.

Two other people were injured in the attack Wednesday morning: Deb Freele, 58, of London, Ontario is recovering at a hospital in Cody, Wyoming, and authorities identified the second injured camper as Ronald Singer, 21, of Alamosa, Colorado. They said he was treated for bite injuries and released from the Cody hospital.

I understood this to be a Yellowstone Park area campground. I respect the sanctity of human life, and therefore I cannot say "Oh well" because a man was killed without any sort of provocation.

My heart truly goes out to the family of the victum!BUT seriously why is everyone blaming the bear, remember it is a wild animal capable of anything and doing what is natural to a wild animal. If you dare to play in their playground you dare to pay the consequences!!
