Carter Family Donations

By Katie Ussin

BILLINGS - Hundreds of volunteers are busy building the Carter family, of Billings, a new home this week for the show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Meantime, close family friends have teamed-up with First Interstate Bank and set-up a fund for the family to help with expenses related to a rare, debilitating disease, called Chiari Malformation, which the family is struggling with.
The family's medical bills alone total $500,000, and mom, Julie Carter, is an advocate for thousands worldwide with the disease.
"She's taking her grocery money to help send them information and she's even been to New York with people to help be an advocate for them when they have surgery, and that comes out of her own pocket to help people," said Julie's good friend, Debbie Schneider.
"I had a little boy and he brought me his savings, it was $13 and he wanted to donate it to the fund, to the family," said Tanya McQueen, show designer. "He teared-up and he cried and he said that he was going to spend his allowance on a video game, but wanted to give it to the family."
The new home is set to be completed Saturday, and the Carter family episode will air sometime in October.
