BILLINGS - The Carter Family, of Billings, is on an unexpected vacation in New York City this week, and when they get back, Saturday, they will have a brand new home. Ty Pennington and the gang from ABC's, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition surprised the deserving family Saturday morning.
The site, just north of Billings, off Roundup Road, where the extreme makeover for the Carter family's house is going on is quite a scene.
Monday was demo day, and bright and early they did what the show calls it's "Braveheart Scene" where the design team, construction crew, and 200 some volunteers rush the house in a symbolic gesture of the upcoming demolition.
The volunteers are on site around the clock.
"We will get the site excavated, get the footings in, get the concrete foundation up, and late night, around 3 a.m., we'll do some preliminary backfill, we'll get the floor joints in, and sometime early morning, we'll begin to frame the house," said Steve Baillie, Jeff Junkert Construction.
Julie Carter's mom, Grandma Sandy, who lives next door, said it is bittersweet to see the old house, which was a refurbished chicken coop, go down, but she knows the end result will be worth it.
Now, if you want to come down and check it out, you are more than welcome to. They have set up a spectator area north of the house. Take Roundup Road to mile marker nine, and you will see the signs directing you where to go.
The Carter family was chosen for the show because of their struggle with a rare disease called Chiari Malformation.
